Imagine was a creative partnership in the visual arts between Oxfordshire schools and seven museums and galleries: The Pitt Rivers, the Oxford University Museum of Natural History, the Ashmolean, the Botanic Garden, the Oxfordshire Museum, The River and Rowing Museum and Modern Art Oxford. Schools in Finland, Norway and Austria also joined the project. Imagine was generously funded by Arts Council England South East and Oxfordshire County Council, and partnership with the Regional Health Authority.
All schools and adult learning communities were invited to take part in Imagine and all artworks and projects have been digitally recorded on the Imagine website.
A series of artist residency workshops took place around the county during 2004/5, which all teachers and many pupils could join. The residencies were linked to the seven museums and galleries. The Imagine exhibition followed the exciting county art shows, Portrait 2000 and Wild Art 2002. The art produced during the Imagine year was exhibited either virtually or actually at the Modern Art Oxford gallery for three weeks in September 2005
I hope you enjoyed the project: Oxfordshire pupils and communities certainly made the most exciting and imaginative art ever seen!
This website provides starting points and ideas for creative artwork on the theme of 'Imagine', read it and discard it, as your pupils’ own imagination takes flight. Come fly with me!
